A 3/4 mattress is 48 inches wide and 75 inches long: 10″ wider than a twin and 6″ narrower than a full, at the same 75″ length.

Commonly used for: Antique and vintage beds built before full and queen sizes were common; guest rooms and kids’ rooms where a full is too wide; daybeds, captain’s beds and some campers made for 48″.

Can’t find the right one?

A custom maker can build a 3/4 mattress to your exact inches, including rounded or cut corners. Stores rarely keep this size on the floor.

Is a 3/4 right for you?

Good for

  • Antique and vintage beds built before full and queen sizes were common
  • Guest rooms and kids’ rooms where a full is too wide
  • Daybeds, captain’s beds and some campers made for 48″

Watch out for

  • RV “short full” mattresses are 48 × 74, 1″ shorter. They look the same in photos.
  • A full (54″) won’t fit a 3/4 frame, and a twin (38″) leaves a 10″ gap.
  • Antique frames are often a little off. Measure inside the rails, not the old mattress.

Sheets

Look for sheets sold as 3/4 or 48 × 75. Full sheets are 6″ too wide and bunch up; twin sheets won’t stretch.

A base that fits

Antique beds often need slats or a bunkie board cut to 48″. Check the gap between slats against the mattress maker’s rules.

Questions about 3/4 mattresses

How big is a 3/4 mattress?

A 3/4 mattress is 48 inches wide and 75 inches long: 10″ wider than a twin and 6″ narrower than a full, at the same 75″ length.

Is a 3/4 mattress the same as a full?

No. A full is 54 × 75; a 3/4 is 48 × 75. Same length, 6″ narrower.

Is a 3/4 bed big enough for two people?

It’s tight: each person gets 24″, 14″ less than a twin. Most people use a 3/4 as a roomy single.

Where can I buy a 3/4 mattress?

Mostly online, from brands and factories that make it to order or stock it, plus local mattress factories. Furniture stores rarely keep one on the floor.

Will it fit my bed frame?

Measure the inside of the bed frame, including any lips or rails. Antique beds are not standardized; the name alone cannot confirm the fit. A short full can measure 48 × 74 inches. That is not the same length as a 48 × 75-inch three-quarter mattress.

Can I return a 3/4 mattress?

34 of the 39 3/4 mattresses we list can be returned under the seller’s trial. Made-to-order mattresses often can’t. Each one’s return terms are in its details.

How much does it cost?

Prices change often, so we link to each seller instead of listing them. Odd sizes are often priced at or above the nearest standard size, and made-to-order ones usually cost more.

Are the owner reviews about this size?

Usually not. Owner feedback is about the mattress model, often in a more common size. Each summary says whether it’s about this exact model, and links to the source.
